UPDATED PRESS RELEASE
FILM: BODY OF WAR
TWO SHOWINGS
Peninsula Peace & Justice
BLUE HILL - Peninsula Peace & Justice plans two showings of the newly
released film BODY OF WAR, produced by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro. The
award-winning documentary will be shown on Friday December 5 and Sunday
December 7, 7:00 p.m. in the Howard Room of the Blue Hill Library.
According to the organizers, "A second showing has been added because of
widespread interest in this film. We want to be sure people have an
opportunity to see it locally."
"Body of War" follows the story of Tomas Young, a 25-year-old Iraq War
Veteran, wounded and paralyzed, learning to live with his disability as
he becomes an outspoken critic of the war in Iraq. The films are free
and open to the public. For more info, call 326-4405.
[from Sundance Channel review:]
"Framing a condemnation of America's invasion of Iraq with the personal
story of Tomas Young of Kansas City, filmmakers Ellen Spiro and Phil
Donahue present an unforgettable and heartbreaking portrait of war's
legacy. Young, who enlisted immediately after September 11, 2001, was
paralyzed from the chest down after being shot in Sadr City, Iraq. BODY
OF WAR follows the 24-year-old as he copes with chronic pain,
depression, incontinence and urinary infections - and Young's political
awakening as he emerges as a powerful voice against the war."
