Re: War Dead Memorial maintenance on Saturday August 1st.
At the moment, it appears that we will be able to:
10:00 a.m. pull up the 5,000+ flags
11:00 a.m. mow the field, and reset the flags
The forecast looks dry for tomorrow, but of course there is a lot of
rain tonight.
In order to be able to mow the field, the flags will need to be
pulled up at 10:00, then hopefully it will be dry enough to mow.
The flags can then be re-planted.
It will be best if there are a lot of people to help at 10:00.
The War Memorial is located on Main Street, between the Blue Hill
Public Library and the Congregational Church.
Everyone is invited to participate. This is the 5th year of the Iraq
War Dead Memorial. As of today, 5,087 US soldiers have been killed in
Iraq and Afghanistan (4,328 in Iraq, 759 in Afghanistan -- 129 of
whom have been killed in Afghanistan between January and July this
year).
Thank you.
