MPA has worked hard to pass a green housing bond bill that will provide
needed jobs, reduce energy consumption, and most importantly, begin to
address the lack of affordable housing options in Maine.
Despite the bill passing in both the House and Senate, it now appears
that the Appropriations Committee is considering /reducing the funds for
affordable housing or taking money from the HOME Fund/ (Maine's
affordable housing trust fund) to pay the debt service required to pay
for the bonds. Neither of these ideas are acceptable and the time is now
for all of us to weigh in with our representatives and senators to say
so. The committee is scheduled to make a decision tomorrow, June 11, at
1pm.
Please call your representative and senator TODAY with the following
message:
*(1)* Please pass the energy bill (LD 1485) as is, without amendment;
and
*(2)* Please protect the HOME Fund. Paying for housing by cutting
housing elsewhere diminishes the critical job creation benefits
of this bill.
To leave a message for members of the House, call (800)423-2900
To leave a message for members of the Senate, call (800)423-6900
Thank you for taking the time to make these calls today; we are at the
very end of a long road and need one more push. Please forward this
email to everyone who cares about affordable housing in Maine.
