5.02.09 *_Ellsworth_* 9:30am-11:30am:  Hancock County Children's Council 
presents "Alternatives to Spanking" workshop with Linda Levesque at 
Downeast Health Services, 52 Christian Ridge Road, Ellsworth.  
 Discipline means standards, expectations, rules, morals and values.  It 
does not mean spanking, hitting, threatening or belittling.  The goal of 
discipline is to create an orderly, predictable, stable, and fun world 
to enjoy and grow healthy.  As space is limited, please call Candy Eaton

5.02.09 *_Trenton_* 11:00am-2:00pm: "Touch-A-Truck!" at the Bar Harbor 
Hancock County Airport, Route 3, Trenton.  Fun for the whole family!  
Come see the inside and outside of more than 20 large vehicles.  
$5/person, $20/family, infants FREE.  Proceeds benefit Harbor House 
Children's Center & Westside Food Pantry. (rain date 5.03.09)

5.04.09 *_Ellsworth _*4:00pm:  Anyone interested in organizing a "Free 
Meal" in Ellsworth is welcome to attend this initial planning meeting to 
be held at the Ellsworth City Hall Auditorium.  FMI, 664-6016 or 374-3608

5.04.09 *_Augusta_* 9:00am-4:00pm:  Prevention Ethics, presented by 
Jackie Valley, CPS at Augusta Civic Center.  $35 fee, 30 participants.

Jackie Valley, CPS, at Spectacular Event Center, Bangor.  $35.00 fee.

5.06.09 *_Ellsworth_* 9:00am-3:00pm:  Professional training "Working 
with family strengths and challenges:  Concepts to support change in 
families" presented by Marjorie Withers at Faith Community Fellowship.

5.11.09 *_Ellsworth_* 5:30pm-7:00pm:  "Women on a Mission" support group 
to be held at Community Fellowship, Route 3, Trenton.  Judy Nevells will 
facilitate group by finding fun ways to discover what participants feel 
are the core issues that the group wants to explore.  Topics will be 
determined by the participants.   A light dinner and child care will be

5.12.09 *_Ellsworth_* 6:00pm-8:00pm:  "Relatives as Parents" *FREE* 
Monthly Support Group will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 
Downeast Health Services, 52 Christian Ridge Road, Ellsworth.  Whether 
grandparents (aunts, uncles, other family members) are the primary 
caregivers of the children living in their homes, or if a parent is also 
present (or perhaps an intermittent presence) they face a myriad of 
challenges.  Among the issues with which they must deal with are 
financial, legal, health (physical, mental health and insurance), 
housing, education, respite care, child rearing discipline, rules, 
boundaries, family communication and relationships, special needs of 
these children and social isolation.  Call Candy at 667-5304 ext. 261 FMI.

 

5.12.09 *_Mount Desert Island_* (4 workshops).  Maine Association of Nonprofits presents a Special SkillBuilder Event in a day on Mount Desert Island.  Each workshop fee is $50/member or $100/non-member.  Participants who attend both a morning and afternoon session will receive a fee discount:  $80/member or $160/non-member.  All workshops presented at West Eden Village Improvement Society.                9:00am-noon:  "/Demystifying Evaluation/" is intended for small & grassroots nonprofits seeking better ways of documenting what they do and sharing their results.

               9:00am-noon:  "/Cultivating Major Gifts/":  Come to this workshop to learn how to make the most out of limited staff time by focusing on the cultivation of major donors.

               1:00pm-4:00pm:  "/Funding and Your Board/": Come to this workshop to learn how staff and volunteers can work together to position your organization to realize success in fundraising.**

               1:00pm-4:00pm:  "/Planned Giving:  An Overview & Tales from the Trenches/":  This course will provide an overview of the most common planned giving vehicles with emphasis on bequests and charitable gift annuities.

 

5.12.09 *_Bangor_* 9:00am-noon:  "Inspiring Courageous Accountability", an interactive workshop facilitated by Deb Burwell and Carol Carriuolo, designed for directors and managers. 5.13.09 *Ellsworth* 9:00am-1:00pm:  "Full of Ourselves" train-the-trainer seminar with Deb Burwell and Nilja Brecher-Demuro, MSW, at Maine Cooperative Extension, 63 Boggy Brook Road, Ellsworth.  Full of Ourselves is a comprehensive and upbeat program, addresses the complex issues girls and women face today about self acceptance and body conficence; media literacy and weightism; healthy eating and physical activity; emotional hungers and healthy relationships.
