> WERU-FM Community Radio in East Orland, Maine seeks candidates for the position of Outreach & Development Assistant to work on community outreach and engagement projects, especially in Greater Bangor.  This position is available through the Digital Arts Service Corps, a national AmeriCorps*VISTA program that places service members into nonprofit organizations that use media and technology to strengthen communities. A candidate will be selected by the end of May and begin service in late July.  This is a one-year, full-time position contingent upon funding by the Digital Arts Service Corps.

> Roles & Responsibilities:
> o  Serve in a vital outreach role to boost community engagement in our new broadcast service area (especially Greater Bangor) so that listenership, community support and volunteerism increase.
> o  Collaborate with the General Manager and other staff, as well as the Development Committee, to create a detailed outreach and engagement plan and timeline for the project.
> o    Provide outreach for the organization (in collaboration with other staff and volunteers) using methods such as (though not limited to): community outreach events and presentations, representation at the public events of other organizations, listener surveying at informational and community input meetings, recording public talks and events for broadcast on WERU.
> o    Inform the public about training opportunities provided by the radio station such as interviewing skills, recording and audio editing and music program production.
> o    Recruit potential new volunteers (in collaboration with Volunteer Coordinator) interested in advanced training and broadcast/web-based opportunities, as well as those interested in behind-the-scenes volunteering.
> o   Recruit teens interested in advanced training and broadcast/web-based opportunities through our Youth Radio Project.
> o   Serve on the radio station's Development Committee.
> o    Collaborate with the Publications/Website Manager to develop printed materials necessary for outreach and training (fliers, posters, training manuals, etc.), as well as a web presence for the project.
> o       Write and distribute press releases for station outreach and engagement events.  Solicit opportunities for in depth articles for local publications.
> o   Spend a minimum of two days a week on community engagement activities outside the office.
> o      Create an outreach, marketing and community engagement manual.
> 
> Benefits:
> o        $11,575/year living allowance, paid bi-weekly
> o  Work mileage reimbursement and paid professional development and conference opportunities.
> o     $5,350 Education Award (for college tuition of loan repayment) or $1,500 cash stipend paid at the end of the year of service.
> o  Student loan deferment
> o Healthcare (catastrophic coverage), prescription drug coverage and childcare allowance

> Eligibility & Qualifications:
> o    AmeriCorps*VISTA candidates must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident, be team oriented, and be willing to take on a wide variety of challenges. 
> o    You must be at least 18 years old.  There is no upper age limit.
> o       You must have strong verbal and written communication skills, and especially be a strong public speaker.
> o       Self-initiative, flexibility and organizational skills are a must. 
> o    You must be available to serve full-time for one year (July 25, 2010 - July 31, 2011) and are prohibited for secondary employment or full-time college during your year of service.
> o    You must have a reliable vehicle.
> o      Familiarity and/or experience with WERU a plus, as well as experience with other nonprofits.
