[HCCN] Iraq War Dead Memorial -- work continues

About a dozen people braved the heat today to do maintenance work on  
the Blue Hill FIELD OF FLAGS, the Iraq War Dead Memorial.
Tony mowed for 2 hours (with a mower provided by Lori C., thank you  
to both of you  A LOT !) and flags were pulled from the reluctant  
earth, then planted again in rows. Thank you also to Becky and Rob  
for updating the painted sign.
We had a lovely surprise visit from Frances Crowe of the Northampton  
Committee to Stop the War in Iraq (northamptoncommittee.org). Frances  
is in Blue Hill on occasion and is happy to share the work done in  
her Massachusetts community.
p.s. we have someone's stainless water bottle.

More remains to be done during cooler evenings or mornings. The  
bundles of flags are at the rear of the field, near the bench, and  
anyone who can find 1/2 hour or more to pitch in is eagerly  
encouraged to do so.
If you are unsure of the measure, just copy the rows parallel to that  
which you are working on. The flags themselves make a handy measure  
guide, as they are 21", which is the width of the rows apart.

Thank you to everyone who helped today. We had several conversations  
with interested passers-by, including a visitor from Pennsylvania who  
said she is planning to replicate the field in her town and asked  
some logistical questions.
