for support and relief to Haiti: One is Konbit Sante/Cap Haitian
Health Partnership, (207) 347-6733 or info at konbitsante.org or
www.konbitsante.org; Maine Haiti Solidarity, c/o Wells Staley-Mays,

Partners in Health, PO Box 845578, Boston, MA 02284-5578 or
www.pih.org/home.html, and finally, an article to help give a larger
context to the current disaster—“Ten Things the US Can and Should Do
for Haiti” by Bill Quigley.”

A new film, “Death and Taxes,” is ready for showing just before the
April 15 Tax Day. Through interviews and a little music, it includes
sections on “becoming a war tax resister,” “methods of resistance,”
“redirecting taxes,” “risks and consequences,” and “goals and
choices.” Almost thirty war tax resisters were interviewed, so there
are a wide variety of perspectives on WTR. To arrange for a showing,
contact the Maine War Tax Resistance Resource Center, 525-7776 or
rocs at psouth.net.

One bill before the Maine legislature this winter is one on limiting
solitary confinement in Maine prisons. Ray Luc Levasseur will be
speaking about it on February 17 (see above) in Belfast. Education
and lobbying leadership on the bill is being coordinated by the Maine
Prisoner Advocacy Coalition. Contact Judy Garvey at 374-2437 or
bluehillme at roadrunner.com or Robert Bothen at 553-0801 for more on
the bill and how to support it.

“Bring Our War $$ Home” is a three month campaign (January 15 to
April 15) to urge state legislators and Maine people to demand less
money for the US military and more for state and local needs. It
began with a press conference on January 14 and will include
testimony at the capitol in Augusta, local events highlighting
misplaced budget priorities, town meeting resolutions, and other
actions. They have calculated the amount each town in Maine paid last
year for war. For a copy of a sample town meeting resolution, town
calculations, and other possible strategies for the three months,
contact Lisa or Mark, 643-2356, lsavage3 at gmail.com or Bruce Gagnon,
443-9502.
