  FORUM ON TAX REFORM REFERENDUM

WEDNESDAY, MAY 26, 2010

ELLSWORTH CITY HALL AUDITORIUM

7:00 – 8:30 PM

The new tax reform law recently passed by the legislature is known
as: “An Act To Implement Tax Relief and Tax Reform”. A People’s Veto
of this bill will appear as Question 1 on the June 8 ballot.

Question 1 reads, “Do you want to reject the new law that lowers
Maine’s income tax and replaces that revenue by making changes to the
sales tax?”

The “Yes” side argues that tax reform would enact over 100 new
taxes. The “No” side argues that 88% of Maine people would pay lower
taxes under tax reform.

At the May 26 forum, representatives from both sides will present
their positions. A moderated question and answer session will follow
the presentations.

The public is invited to attend this nonpartisan event sponsored and
moderated by the League of Women Voters of Maine. For more
information, phone 664-0696.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization,
