MDI Green Drinks celebrates Earth Day with Bill McKibben
MDI Green Drinks celebrates Earth Day by being one of the sponsors
bringing Bill McKibben to Maine. McKibben is an author, educator,
and one of the world’s most revered environmentalists. As founder of
the climate campaign 350.org, he has been recognized by Time Magazine
as the “planet’s best green journalist.” The Boston Globe wrote that
he is "probably the country's most important environmentalist." He
is a frequent contributor to the New York Times, The Atlantic
Monthly, Harper's, Orion Magazine, Mother Jones, Rolling Stone and is
a board member of Grist Magazine. Currently a scholar in residence
at Middlebury College, Bill will be the featured speaker at the HOPE
Festival at the University of Orono on Saturday, April 21st.
The Hope Festival will be at the Student Recreation and Fitness
Center, UMO, from 11am-4pm, Saturday, April 21st, 2012. Bill
McKibben will be the Keynote Speaker at noon. The festival music
will be lead by our own Timbered Lake featuring poet-singer Crow
Suncloud and singer-songwriter Diana Ramsdell Newman. The acoustic
duo blends our Native American heritage and relationship with the
Earth with a promise of hope for our future. These HOPE Festival
themes are further enlivened with Inanna’s West African rhythms
during the finale. This percussion and vocal ensemble explore an
ancient tradition of drumming through original arrangements and
compositions
Zachary Field, Juggler, will highlight tons of Children's
Activities. There will be loads of local foods and over 70 Social
Change Groups available to explain what their organizations are
currently working on.
MDI Green Drinks is a monthly meeting of local people who are
passionate about environmental issues. It is a social gathering
without any agenda. Simply a chance for us to be together and talk.
Join us for our April Earth Day meeting on Wednesday, April 18th,
7pm, St. Saviours Church in Bar Harbor, Rectory Hall. At that time
we hope to collect donations for Mr. McKibben’s sponsorship. Any
amount from $1 on up would be greatly appreciated to show our support
for bringing Bill McKibben to Maine. For those who either can’t make
the meeting or would like to send a check in advance please make it
payable to Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine, 96 Harlow
Street, Bangor, Me. 04401. For more information contact: Ron
