Dear War Tax Resisters and War Tax Resistance Supporters in Maine,
You are invited to attend the annual Maine statewide workshop and
gathering of war tax resisters and supporters on Saturday, February
4th, 2012, at the Peace and Justice Center of Eastern Maine, 96
Harlow St. #100, Bangor, Maine. See the attached flyer for a
schedule and other details. In case of bad weather on February 4th,
call 525-7776 before 8 am or the previous evening to see if the
meeting is postponed to the snow date of February 5th, same time and
place. Whether you are interested in beginning war tax resistance,
have been or are a resister, or want to learn more about how to do
it, this meeting will provide information and help you decide what
new directions and actions you can take.
Directions to the Peace and Justice Center - From I - 95 (from south
or north or west) Take Exit 184 and turn at top of the ramp (right if
coming from the south, left if coming from the north) onto Union St.
Go to traffic light (14th Street), turn left onto 14th, go one long
block and straight thru a traffic light. Follow that road for about a
¼ mile and the road becomes Harlow Street. Go past the Federal
Building on right, Bangor library on left, and the Center is in the
next block. Parking on the street is fine on weekends. #96 I on the
right. If you are lost, call the Center at 942-9343.
Directions to the Peace and Justice Center - From Downeast or
Midcoast Take Route 1A from Ellsworth or Route 15 from Bucksport or
Route 1A from Belfast-Winterport into Bangor. From Bucksport or
Ellsworth, Take I-395 west to the Main Street exit. Take Main Street
into downtown Bangor. After crossing the Kenduskeag Stream, the
street becomes State St., Turn hard left onto the next street, which
is Harlow Street. Look for #96 on the left. If you are lost, call the
Center at 942-9343.
For carpooling or questions, contact Larry Dansinger at 525-7776 or
rosc at psouth.net.
The morning session (10 AM-noon) will have two concurrent workshops,
one for people new to war tax resistance, those considering it, and
those just wanting more information, and one for more experienced
resisters.
Lunch will follow from 12-1 (bring food to share for a potluck,
kitchen is available but no stove).
The afternoon session (1-3 PM) will primarily focus on Tax Day
activities on or before April 15 and how to promote WTR in this
atmosphere of war. We will also discuss connections to national WTR
campaigns and to Maine’s Bring Our War $$ Home campaign.
If you cannot attend this meeting but want to support war tax
resistance work in Maine, or if you want more information on the how-
to's or rewards and possible consequences of war tax resistance,
contact Larry Dansinger at the Resource Center. Also, please let
Larry know if you DO NOT want to continue to receive WTR e/mailings.
