Newsletter editors,

Here are some calendar items for April (plus a few earlier and/or
later). FEEL FREE TO PICK AND CHOOSE AND NOT USE EVERY ITEM. If you
know of things that should be publicized, please send them to me by
the 15th of the month preceding the month when the event occurs.

If you know of events coming up, please send these to me so I can
include in this calendar. I don't have time to search for things, so
your assistance is really a big help in getting notice of more
upcoming events.

Notices:

The Maine Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) need facilitators,
especially men, to facilitate workshops in the Maine State Prison,
Warren; the Maine CorrectionalCenter, Windham, and Community
Workshops to be scheduled throughout the state. Facilitators work in
teams preferably one female and one male completing weekend workshops
in Windham and weekday workshops in Warren. As Facilitators we work
with tested and proven material that gives all of us--inmate and
facilitator--an opportunity to live less violently. The AVP community
currently has a number of female facilitators and we need more males
to compliment our teams. Training includes participation in Basic,
Advanced, and Training for Trainers workshops. You then apprentice
with trained volunteers. There is no cost for any of the three
preparation workshops. Facilitators are not paid for the workshops
they attend or co- facilitate, but you can be reimbursed for any
expenses. For more information, contact Pat Moynahan,
pmmoynahan at maine.rr.com.

Wondering where the proposed East-West Highway, whose promoters are
trying to get money for a feasibility study from the state of Maine,
will actually go? Defending Water in Maine, www.defendingwater.net/
maine has a somewhat detailed map to show the proposed route. It also
is working to prevent state money from going toward a feasibility
study of this private toll road that would save the developers money
and to put that money instead toward basic needs programs in the
state. To keep up on the progress of this legislation, contact Chris
Buchanan, 357-1443 or chris at defendingwater.net.

It's not enough to end wars if we aren't peaceful ourselves and with
each other. Lynn Ellis is looking for others who can attend a 1 and
1/2 day course on BePeace in Maine, probably in June or July. The
workshop would enable more people to become BePeace coaches and
spread the word about how to be peaceful personally as well as on a
society-wide level. For details, contact Lynn Ellis,
lynnsellis at yahoo.com.
