> As we approach the 64th anniversary of the Nakba -- the catastrophe in which more than more than 750,000 Palestinians lost their homes and lands, and thousands of others their lives during the ethnic cleansing that accompanied Israel's creation -- between 1,600 and 2,000 Palestinian prisoners have joined one of the largest hunger strikes in history.

About 300 Palestinians are currently in administrative detention, a policy which clearly violates Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which states: "Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him."

May 17th will mark one month since the majority of strikers began refusing food.
