> Armistice Day Weekend Remembrance at Iraq War Dead Memorial
> BLUE HILL–For eight years, Peninsula Peace and Justice has maintained a memorial to the civilians and soldiers whose lives have been lost in the US wars and drone strikes in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and the region. On November 10, at 10 a.m., community members are invited to the Iraq War Dead memorial to reflect on the legacy of war and to prepare the “Field of Flags” for winter.
> Since 2003, 6,630 US soldiers have been killed in these wars and more than 1.4 million civilians. The memorial is located between the Blue Hill Congregational Church and the Blue Hill Public Library, on Main Street.
> At 10 a.m. Dud Hendrick of Deer Isle, former chapter president of Veterans for Peace and instructor in Peace Studies at the University of Maine, will speak on the cost of war. A graduate of the US Naval Academy and Vietnam Air Force Veteran, Hendrick is actively working to bring awareness of the continued impacts of Agent Orange on the Vietnamese people. In April, he returned to Vietnam with a Habitat for Humanity group of US veterans to build three houses.
> At the closing of the event, participants are invited to share their thoughts, poetry or other readings and to join in song. All welcome. Rain or shine. Info: 326-4405.
