“The mission of Peninsula Peace and Justice
is to provide a community forum for local and global issues
of social, economic and environmental justice.
The group strives to create a space
where growing awareness may be realized as inspired action.”
October 15, 2013

Peninsula Peace & Justice first sprouted in our community in the spring of 1999. Early meetings, held at the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill, featured potlucks and discussions on such topics as the NATO bombing of Kosovo, the death penalty, and Globalized Free Trade vs. Fair Trade (the Battle in Seattle). In 2000 George Bush was elected, and we were off and running. Since then the group has shown over 100 films, organized forums on diverse topics (universal healthcare, GMO foods controversy, the Occupy movement), hosted dozens of speakers and workshops, published the Peninsula Progressive newsletter for several years, maintained a weekly peace vigil for nearly 10 years, created the Peace On Earth banner project, and planned and organized the Field of Flags (Iraq War Dead Memorial) for the past 9 years.

PPJ rarely solicits funds, and in fact the needs are small. But expenses do accrue for the film series, the annual cost of flags, support for individual activism, shared work with other peace organizations, our postal box, and contribution to our local library, which generously offers the essential and lovely Howard Room for our monthly meetings and events.

In true community fashion, it is believed that many hands make light (and better) work, and many small contributions make a healthy organization. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Howard Room of the Blue Hill Library. Each meeting is open to everyone in the community.

If you would like to offer financial support, checks may be made payable to Peninsula Peace & Justice and mailed to PPJ, P.O. Box 1515, Blue Hill ME 04614.

Thank you for your commitment to peace and justice.

In solidarity,

Steve Benson and Judy Robbins
