Artist and filmmaker Alan Magee <http://www.umvaonline.org/blog/film-by-alan-magee/> will present three of his short films on Friday evening, October 23, at Blue Hill Library. Magee’s unique style combines songwriting, narrative and visual art and results in lively and thought-provoking pieces. The evening will include discussion of the films and how Magee came to address the issues that are the central themes: gun violence, mass surveillance, and the National Defense Authorization Act.

A former illustrator for publications such as The New York Times and Playboy, he is also a well known illustrator of book covers. His artwork, which is included in public and private collections around the country, has received many awards, and several books of his paintings have been published. A review in Graphis states “[Magee] explains that art must encompass both darkness and light if, in the end, it is to be of any help to us.”

The event is sponsored by Island Peace & Justice and Peninsula Peace & Justice and will be held in the library’s Howard Room beginning at 7:00 p.m. For more information: 348-5681.
