Bonnie reported on her and Jan Carpenter’s experience in Augusta attending the legislative session in which the members voted “ought not to pass” on the constitutional convention initiative (which uses We The People referendum wording).</div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica;" class="">Also, there was a good showing for the film PRIDE last week and everyone loved the film. </div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica;" class="">Bonnie announced an Alliance for Democracy presentation next week “Co-Opoly” on June 12 at the BH library, see attached notice.</div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 19px;" class=""><br class=""></div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica;" class="">2. Field of Flags. PPJ has gained permission to use the field on Main St for the Field of Flags this summer. Those present agreed to go ahead with the flags based upon expressed community support and using a design plan similar to last year. The date of setting up the field will be June 20th Saturday at 10am with a rain date of Sunday June 21st at noon (rain or shine). Flags will be ordered immediately and expect to be delivered before June 20th. The sign will remain the same (with updated numbers of those killed) and the black flags and sign representing military suicides will be the same as last summer.</div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica;" class="">The field will need to be mowed before that date. Judy will prepare a press release and send out announcements for community to participate.</div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 19px;" class=""><br class=""></div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica;" class="">3. Following Steve Benson’s very positive review of the film “Long Time Coming”, the film will be shown on June 26th at the library. The film, about reconciliation in Vietnam approached thru a veterans bicycle tour in 1998, is timed to coincide with the “40th Anniversary Concert — End of the Vietnam War,” the following day in Penobscot. Steve will draft a press release for the film, Peter will make a poster. Dud Hendrick has been invited to introduce and talk about the film.</div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 19px;" class=""><br class=""></div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica;" class="">4. Lawton Vogel, host of the 40th Anniversary Concert, has requested wording for the concert poster that will represent acknowledgement of appreciation for the work of peacemakers. </div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 19px;" class=""><br class=""></div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica;" class="">5. PPJ’s ongoing participation with Boston BDS (Boycott, Divestment Sanctions in support of justice for Palestine) was discussed in terms of the effort to influence Associated Grocers of New England in their product choices. PPJ members will participate by contacting board members of AGNE to express their desire for a discontinuation of certain products, ex. Sabra Hummus. We also talked about various approaches to BDS locally and what we may learn.</div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 19px;" class=""><br class=""></div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica;" class="">6. Richard Paget brought the issue of increased cooperation and communication between PPJ and IPJ. Several ideas were talked about: shared sponsorship and support of films; potluck gathering to foster working together; ensuring that film posters are available on Deer Isle/Stonington; generally improving effectiveness and friendship thru increased interaction and sharing of goals.</div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica; min-height: 19px;" class=""><br class=""></div><div style="margin: 0px; font-size: 16px; font-family: Helvetica;" class="">7. Bonnie announced a fun event on Saturday at Halcyon Grange in No. Blue Hill: bean supper at 6 p.m. followed by presentation of traveling singer/songwriters (who were here last year). Following this experience of the big and small challenges involved in co-ops, Mark Deeny, the general manager for the Blue Hill Food Co-op, will talk about the seven international principles used by cooperatives and how this business model is an economic engine for communities. The public is welcome to join in at 7 pm on June 12, at the Blue Hill Library Howard Room. Refreshments will be served.
