Principal Barb Neilly, at the request of the Bar Harbor School
Committee, has outlined what budget cuts would be necessary to operate
our Conner-Emerson school strictly on the basis of Maine formula for
"Essential Programs and Services"

You can see an outline of the resulting budget at this link:
http://mdischools.net/20070402_ConnersEmersonUnderEPS.pdf

The first page gives the per-pupil expenses that the EPS formula
allows by category. The second page shows the specific cuts that
would have to be made to reach each of those allowable ratios.

In summary, if voters in a new regional school district voted by a
required annual referendum to limit spending to what the state is now
proposing to set as the standard spending model, we would lose: half
of one principal, our capital improvement and building maintenance
program, the music and competitive sports programs, and the equivalent
of 50% of the classroom teachers.
