I attended a meeting with the rural caucus this morning. (For those who don't know what the RC is, it is a group of Representatives and Senators who represent rural areas of the State and they meet weekly while the Legislature is in session). Rep Cain of Orono answered questions from caucus members. She did not give very many straight answers so I can not tell you much of what was said, She was asked if systems that already had 2500 students would have to do anything. Her answer was "absolutely!" When she finished answering the question the answer was they did not have to do anything, but would be encouraged to do so. (I don't know why!)
When the meeting ended the Small Schools Coalition was invited to make a presentation to the Caucus this Thursday at 8:00am. Yes, they always meet at 8:00am. Anyone is invited to attend. The Chairman asked me to make sure we told what we liked about the Approp. plan, what we did not like, and what we would like to see in it.
Any comments are welcome.
We seem to be making headway, but we need to get more contact by a wider variety of people. It is ours to lose, so let us make certain we stay on the offensive.
