[Local-Maine-Schools] SWH Selectmen vote in favor of u98 position

I haven't seen the papers yet today, and news about the Tuesday
Southwest Harbor Selectmen's meeting may be in them -- at least the
Islander, which seems to have a faster turnaround -- but since someone
asked me, I'll just report that the Selectmen's decision to support the
Union98 statement (http://mdischools.net/20070321_U98_Position.pdf) and
notify all the relevant state officials was 5-0.

Union 98 Board President Amy Young made a nicely hair-raising speech
about what we could expect, based on the way things were going in
Appropriations, and Pam Norwood, board chair, already clearly on board,
asked leading questions designed to remove any doubt about the gravity
of the issue and why the Selectmen should join their counterparts in the
other towns.

Since Tremont had voted the night before in the same fashion, MDI's
towns (via their representatives) are now unanimous in opposition to the
way mandatory consolidation is being pushed toward adoption.
