I would like to thank all of the school board members and concerned
citizens who not only kept the rest of us updated with the latest
news regarding the consolidation plans, but who also met with
legislators regularly and wrote letters and opinion papers, provided
statistics and talking points. As a teacher and parent, I didn't
have time enough to do more than write a few letters myself, and try
to stay on top of the issue by reading the emails on this list serve.
I felt confident, however, that my opinions and concerns were being
carried to the right ears. This law could have meant the end of my
job, the end of my children's supportive and accommodating education,
and the end of one of our reasons for living on MDI--if not for the
tireless work of you folks who would not sit back and let the DOE
steamroll those changes through the system. Yesterday, I left Rob
Liebow's presentation of the law and its impact on us feeling annoyed
at all the of the work spent and left to do because of this change,
but mostly relieved and grateful to the folks who fought so hard to
ensure the quality of education that we have here on MDI is not
lost. Thank you. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed.
