Hi to all.
I have attached two proposed pieces of legislation out of the Ed Committee.  If you already have them, hit the delete button.  If you can't open them let me know.

Gail Marshall of Union 98, MDI, Roger Shaw, Jerry White and I met with Hannah Pingree who is the Majority Leader of the House.  We discussed various issues that I will discuss with you in another email tomorrow.  She believes that there is strong movement to discard the Approp subcommittee's position and return to the Ed committee.  However, my experience with the Legislature is to never assume any action by them, but to be prepared to influence the legislation and then to defeat it if it does not meet our Maine students' need for quality education.

Rep. Pingree strongly suggests that we all contact our Representatives and our Senators to let them know what we oppose, such as no local vote for communities; and it is beneficial to let them know what we can support.

I strongly urge those of you who are in Unions to email the Appropriation Committee and the Education to let them know the efficiencies that come with Unions.  I know that many of you have developed unique ways of working with the various individual schools board to cut down on the time it take for Superintendents to work with them.

Finally,  I am asking all of you to arrange for a  minimum of 10 people from your communities to be ready at a days notice to drive to Augusta to put pressure on the legislature.  I will discuss this at greater length later.  I certainly believe that we can get more then 10, but that is the basic goal to start with.
