Subject: Proposal
Good Morning
We now know what the basic plan is for school change. It is to
each of us to decide if we are satisfied with the proposal. If we are
not satisfied we must get on the ball and let our legislators know how
we want them to vote and why. Yesterday I talked with several
legislators and most of them wanted to wait to see what the proposal
was before they would commit on how they will vote. It is my view
that we can have a major role in how this plays out if we are willing
to take action.
The leadership wants to start voting on the proposal this Monday,
so if you are going to take action, now is the time. I will know more
today and will let you know.
The Rural Caucus is planning to meet tomorrow, Friday, June 1 to
discuss the new draft. They are planning to meet at 12 noon in the
Transportation Room. If the Legislature is not in session tomorrow,
they will meet Monday. I would encourage you to attend this meeting
tomorrow. I also think we should be down in Augusta while this plan
is being debated.
More later.
Dick
