Good evening everyone,
I am going to make this short because we all desparately need to get on
the telephone or write an e-mail tonight to our legislators.
It is my understanding ( I DO NOT KNOW THIS FOR FACT, BUT I CANNOT WAIT
ANY LONGER TO E-MAIL
YOU ALL) that the governor is going to send an amendment to LD 2314,
which is currently tabled in the House or perhaps he will send a new
bill for consideration. There is speculation that some type of a
compromise may be in the offing, but again speculation has it that the
amendment or bill will require that teacher negotiations be done at the
regional level. That is completely unacceptable because it will just
skyrocket the cost of education at the local level.
Please everyone call your legislator tonight or e-mail them and tell
them that with 1 to 4 days left in the session any last minute so-called
compromises are completely unacceptable. Please remind them about all
the promises and commitments which the Commissioner made about
consolidation last year during the debate, and we don't need to have the
law more complicated than it is with promises she will not keep.. As
we have said all along, the law is broken and the only fix is repeal.
There will be great pressure to pass this so that the legislature can
say that they have done "something".

Judy and I spent this morning at the legislature and came home at noon
when it became obvious that they were not going to do education today.
We need all the help anyone can give us tomorrow talking with
legislators. We plan to be at the State House by 8 AM.
Please keep in touch.
Sincerely,
Skip
