Brian, Please pass this on.
Maine Small Schools Conference
When: Friday, March 7, 2008
Time: 8:30 to 2:30
Where: Shibles Hall University of Maine, Room 202
We are not charging for this conference as we are getting the room for nothing and we will not be serving lunch. We will have coffee and muffins available in the morning. You can bring your own lunch or get it at the cafeteria which is next to Shibles.
The University is not in session, so parking should not be a problem. You will need to stop at UMO's Public safety office to get a permit.
We can accomadate about fifty people, so please let me know as soon as you can if you are attending.
There are the topics we will be covering. It is our intention to have a participatory gathering. We want to know what is going on in your areas so we can all learn from each other.
1. Legislative update on what has happened and what will be happening in Augusta that will affect us.
2. Presentation and discussion on EPS funding.
3. The status of the Repeal Effort.
4. RPCs: What is going on with the RPCs in various areas. We will have reports from Northern Maine, Washington County, Hancock County area, and Western Maine. We will have a panel discussion followed by small group discussions. We would like to have you come with what is happening in your area with such issues as:
Teachers' salaries, Central office costs, Central office staffing changes, how you are dealing with special ed, transportation, and facalities. Anything you find has been inportant to the RPCs in your area.
We just met this after noon to set up the agenda. So this is an informal presentation of the agenda, but these are the areas we will cover. I am going to be in Augusta tomorrow and Friday, so I wanted to get this out to you. I will do a better job over the weekend and get it to you for Monday.
If you have questions, get in touch with me.
Dick Gould
