Hi
At the Ed Committee today they voted 7-3 to remove the requirement for a budget referendum for certain municipalities that have charters, such as Augusta and Portland. I don't know who voted as I was out of the room at the time. I spoke to Rep. Edgecomb later and he definitely voted against it.
He pointed out that a city like Caribou would have to have a referendum even though they have a charter if they become part of an RSU with other municipalities.
Another example of uneven legislation. I will get more info out tomorrow.
Thanks to those of you who have contacted your Legislators and got the results to me.
Rumor has it that the LD1932 might not come out for another week or two, but don't count on it. Please contact your legislators even if you favor only repeal. If 1932 passes repeal will be much, much more difficult.
My Senator, Doug Smith and my Representative Pete Johnson are both voting against 1932.
Dick
