Good morning everyone,

When I returned home form Augusta on Friday, I wrote this e-mail Friday afternoon. Last night I found it in my draft file. I had apparently not sent it.
So, even though the information is a little dated, I am sending it this morning.

Best wishes,

Good afternoon everyone,

We filed our petition to repeal the school consolidation law with the Secre-
tary of State's office this morning. Everything went as expected and I think we all had a good time. The only disappointment was that more of you especially Judy Sproule, Lauren Romain, and Bucket Davis were not present.

Present were David Trahan, a candidate for the Senate from Waldoboro and Brad Moulton, a candidate for the House from Cape Neddick. Dick Dyer was also present as was George Crawford from Harrington. Members of the press included Paula Gibbs from the Wiscasset news-
paper, Don Carrigan and a cameraperson from Channel 2/6. Matt Stone and a cameraperson from the Kennebec Journal. We had a little imprompto news conference at which I read my prepared remarks and then there was a general discussion between the press and non-press
people. We took the 12 cartons of signatures up to the 4th floor. Melissa
Packard, Director of Elections, gave me a receipt for them.

The very best news of the day came from Julie Flynn, Deputy Secretary of State, that she hoped that they would begin counting the signatures in December after all the recounts and election matters are finalized. It will probably take them the better part of a month to count the signatures. So, maybe we shall know by the new year about our petition.

On our way back downstairs, we had another exchange of views with Mal
Leary of Capitol New Service and AJ Higgins of MPBN.

It was a year ago today this afternoon that Judy Sproule and I picked up the first petitions from the Ellsworth American printers and started mailing them out. We sure have come a long way in one year, thanks to everyone's very hard work and energy.

I have received many nice e-mails of congratulations this week. Thank you all for your expressions of appreciation.

If anyone thinks that our work is done, you are incorrect. The real work of convincing the legislators to repeal the law is just beginning. More later!!!

Best wishes and my personal thanks to each and everyone of you.

Sincerely,
Skip
