Film: The Waiting Room
BLUE HILL – Peninsula Peace & Justice will screen The Waiting Room on Friday, November 22, at Blue Hill Library 7pm.
In his first feature, SF Bay-area resident Peter Nicks got extraordinary access behind the scenes for a compassionate 80-minute film of 24 hours in the Emergency Department of an under-resourced, over-used public hospital in Oakland, California. A fly-on-the-wall process view of fast, tough decisions and immediate solutions, this understated documentary shows the gritty integrity and determination of five remarkable patients pulling through the care system.
Providing evidence for all sides of the health insurance debate, the film itself presents no agenda, experts, or statistics. It’s an emotionally compelling and uplifting look inside a busy, complex and vitally necessary institution. Lauded by The San Francisco Chronicle as “a classic” and by Artforum as “urgent and effective,”The Waiting Room was voted best documentary of 2012 by the San Francisco Film Critics Circle.
Free, including refreshments, and very much open to the public. Discussion will follow, for those who want to stay. For info, call 664-0742.
