Judy

Both Maine senators support releasing the torture report! Thanks in part to advocacy from people around the state, Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King wrote in a joint statement that they will vote to make public the investigation into U.S. use of torture. Will you thank them for their statement? You can read more about their position in the Portland Press Herald.

Thank you for your work to end torture,

Judy—

After months of work, the Senate Intelligence Committee will vote this week on whether to make public its report on U.S. torture. Maine senators Susan Collins and Angus King will be the deciding votes — will you call them today and ask them to support public accountability for U.S. torture?

Because the vote is coming up this week, a phone call is the best way to get your message through quickly. You can reach Sen. Collins at (202) 224-2523 and Sen. King at (202) 224-5344.

Here are some talking points to help you make your call:

  • My name is [[your name]], and I’m from [[your city]], Maine.
  • Please release the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report on torture to the public.
  • I believe that torture is unacceptable, and the American people cannot hold the government accountable without transparency.
  • Releasing the report is an important step for accountability and preventing further acts of torture. The report is too important to remain classified.

Best,
