Dear Friends,

Please accept this invitation to an event I’ve been working on recently featuring progressive journalist John Nichols. I’ve heard John several times in person, and he truly gives an insightful and captivating talk. It’s a great pleasure to have him coming to Bangor. Please see below for a brief bio. He’s agreed to help us raise consciousness and funds for clean elections work. I hope you can join me for this political soiree!  Warm regards, Scott
P.S. Feel free to forward as a personal invitation to anyone you think would be interested in this event (or post wherever appropriate). I’d like for as many people to meet and hear John as possible. S.
WHAT: John Nichols Book Signing and Talk
WHERE: Union Street Brick Church, 126 Union St, Bangor, ME (parking across the street and on side streets)
WHEN: Friday, October 4, 5:30-7:30 pm (John will speak at 6:00)
Please join noted author and commentator John Nichols for a book signing and engaging talk about his latest work, Dollarocracy: How the Money and Media Election Complex is Destroying America.(co-written with Robert McChesney). John Nichols is the Nation magazine’s Washington, DC, correspondent. A pioneering political blogger, he has written the magazine’s “Online Beat” column since 1999. In 2011 he and Lisa Graves of the Center for Media and Democracy exposed the legislative agenda of ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council, which generates model legislation to limit voting access, remove limits on election contributions, and so on, as well as similar proposals in other policy areas. We’ve been the unhappy recipients of some ALEC work in the previous Maine legislature. His articles have appeared in the New York Times, Chicago Tribune and dozens of other newspapers and he is a frequent guest on radio and television programs and documentaries as a commentator on politics and media issues. He is the author or co-author of eleven books on media, elections, progressive history, and related topics. Of Nichols, author Gore Vidal said: “Of all the giant slayers now afoot in the great American desert John Nichols’s sword is the sharpest.”
John Nichols will be at the Union Street Brick Church, Friday, October 4, 5:30-7:30, and speaking at 6:00. Donations gladly accepted for Maine People’s Alliance clean elections work. FMI, Scott Ruffner, 852-5678
