Go, Granny D! to Play in Blue Hill
Actress Barbara Bates Smith and musician Jeff Sebens will bring their nationwide tour of Go, Granny D! to Emlen Hall at Bay School on Sunday, April 6, at 7 pm.
Doris “Granny D.” Haddock walked across America at age 90 to bring the issue of campaign finance reform to the attention of people and the Congress, urging passage of the McCain-Feingold Act. When the act was largely overturned by the Supreme Court in 2010, she inspired people when she said “Democracy is a running game. You huddle and you go back in. You keep going.”
Bates Smith’s show, based on Granny D’s memoir, brings a remarkable woman to life and will have you laughing and cheering. All are invited to enjoy this play, sponsored by Alliance for Democracy, Americans Who Tell the Truth, Island Peace & Justice, Maine AllCare, and Peninsula Peace & Justice. There will be refreshments. Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted. Proceeds will go to support local organizations offering food and fuel assistance in our communities.
