Help bring back same day voter registration!
The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a meeting at noon on Saturday, July 9, at the Maine Grind in Ellsworth. League president Barbara McDade will bring us up to date about the People’s Veto effort to overturn the legislature’s repeal of Election Day Voter Registration (EDR), also known as same-day voter registration. Find out how you can help. We expect to have petitions available to sign or circulate and will receive instruction on how to circulate petitions. This is a coalition effort; see http://protectmainevotes.com/ for the latest information to to see a list of the coalition members. The Hancock County Coalition Coordinator will attend our meeting as a resource. Same-day registration has been a cornerstone of Maine’s exemplary voter participation for almost 40 years and we aim to restore this basic right. We will meet beginning at noon on Saturday in the basement at the Maine Grind. Lunch will be available at a cost of $10. This meeting is open to the public — bring a friend to learn more about this very important and timely issue. Hope to see you there.
