Subject: Fwd: Protest Friday re: removal of public art by LePage admin.
Governor LePage is having a mural removed from the lobby of the Department of Labor. It was COMMISSIONED BY MAINE DEPT. OF LABOR (“a commission of a lifetime”) by Seal Cove artist Judy Taylor in 2008 TO CELEBRATE OUR STATE’S LABOR HISTORY. View it at
We are gathering Friday ( March 25) at noon in front of the mural at the Department of Labor to protest this attempt to re-write history and silence the power of the arts to tell the truth (their talk is of replacing the mural with something neutral…mountains, etc.) Please join us, Rob Shetterly, Natasha Mayers and others to voice your outrage at this growing corporatization of our government. This will not be a protest ( yet) or involve civil disobedience ( yet), but simply be a chance to begin the process of educating people about why this is an important issue.
The Department of Labor is past the Civic Center going north toward Belgrade, on the left. Mural is about 100 feet into the building, in the reception room.
Hope you can join us! NOON, FRIDAY, MARCH 25, MAINE DEPT. OF LABOR, AUGUSTA
