Peninsula Peace & Justice


Peninsula Peace & Justice will meet on Wednesday January 5, 6:30 p.m., at the Blue Hill Library.


Proposed agenda items include:
1. Selecting films for a PPJ film series. 
2. Area peace groups to meet at the Peace & Justice Center’s new location on Harlow Street, January 16th.  ** see below

**Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration at new Peace & Justice Center Location

Bangor – The annual commemoration of  Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday will be held on Sunday, January l6th at the new location of the Peace & Justice Center of Eastern Maine, 96 Harlow Street, Suite 100. (across from the Bangor Public Library)  An Open House vegetarian potluck supper  and sing-along will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.  We hope  you  will join us to inaugurate our new home with a celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. People are encouraged to bring a vegetarian dish to share as well as a poem, song or reading related to the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. for today.  We look forward to welcoming the community to our new space across from the Bangor Public Library”.   
The Open House and Commemoration will be held after a meeting of representatives of regional peace & justice groups  sharing the work they do in their communities and how we can support each other.  The regional meeting will take place from 2:00 to 4:00 at the new Center.  Please call the Center if you would like to attend this meeting.   The snow date will be Monday, January l7th at the same times and location.   For more information about both  events call 942-9343.  
Parking in weekends and evenings on Harlow Street is free.  During the week until 5:00 p.m. on street parking is limited to 1 or 1 1/2 hours, but the Abbott Street parking lot across from the library is first fifteen minutes free and  50 cents an hour thereafter with a maximum of $4.50.  
We hope you will also plan to attend the NAACP Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast the following morning beginning at 8:30 at the Wells Conference Center in Orono. Tickets for the breakfast are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors 65 and over, and $10 for high scholl and College students for ID and $20 for children 12 and younger.  To purchase tickets early by calling 581-1406.
