Subject: Thank you for defending Occupy Wall Street

Dear friend,

Thank you. Your name has been added to the petition and your comments will be delivered to Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Another important way to make sure that Mayor Bloomberg hears from all of us is to call New York City’s complaint line at (212) NEW-YORK–that’s (212) 639-9675.

When you’re asked to, Press 1 for English, hit 0, and then wait through the message and hold music until you get an operator. Then tell the operator you’re calling in protest against the eviction of the Occupy Wall Street protesters from Zuccotti Park.

This New York call line has great systems for gathering, counting, and reporting calls, so our collective call will be heard.

And don’t forget that spreading the word is critical. Use facebook and twitter to tell you friends what’s happening, or forward the sample email provided below. But please only pass this message along to those who know you — spam hurts our campaign.

Thanks for all you do.

I got the same email after going to

    http://civic.moveon.org/defend_ows/

(always a good idea to cut off these links after the “?” to eliminate tracking) and telling Mr. Bloomberg that my small-town police chief (white lie — it’s Bar Harbor, not my SWH hometown) has announced that he has no problem with the planned occupation in BH, because it’s well within the Constitutional rights of citizens.

So I called NYC and after LONG wait (due to high call volume — YEAH!) I got a very nice NYC operator, who said I could also register my objection at http://nyc.gov and clicking on “Contact the Mayor.”

It isn’t quite that easy, but I eventually found the form:

    http://www.nyc.gov/html/mail/html/mayor.html

It probably gives you a better chance to make your feelings (like small-town law-enforcement policies) known than going through MoveOn — though everything counts.
