Irish Film June 29
BLUE HILL – Peninsula Peace & Justice will screen an Irish documentary “THE PIPE, Small Village, Big Oil,” on Friday June 29. Set in a small, remote fishing village on Broadhaven Bay, the film tells the story of the clash of cultures when Shell Oil moves in to construct the Corrib Gas Pipeline, which the local citizens believe will endanger their fishing grounds and farmlands. Shell Oil’s plan is met with defiant resistance as the villagers attempt to save their livelihood.
Among many international awards, the film has won the Environmental Film Award at Reykjavik International Film Festival in Iceland and the Irish Film Festival Award in Boston for Best Documentary. It will be shown at Blue Hill Library in the Howard Room at 7:00 p.m. Everyone welcome. For information, 326-4405.
