Film: War on Whistleblowers: Free Press and the National Security State
BLUE HILL– Peninsula Peace & Justice will screen War on Whistleblowers: Free Press and the National Security State on Friday, July 26 in Blue Hill. This timely 2013 documentary from Robert Greenwald clarifies the difference between mere leakers and true whistleblowers. The film explores the stories of government employees who discovered wrongdoing, spoke about it to their superiors and finally, in the face of neglect or resistance, presented what they’d found to the news media, arguably benefiting the public while jeopardizing their families and careers.
Are the four individuals on whom this movie focuses traitors or heroes? Who or what did they endanger through their disclosures? How should the media, the government, and the courts respond? Viewers will see and learn enough to weigh their conclusions.
The 67-minute film will be shown at Blue Hill Library at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26. Free, including refreshments, and open to the public. For info, call 664-0742.
