CUBA Evening in Blue Hill

BLUE HILL — A talk by Dr. Tom Whitney “Why Cuba is Important” will be held on Friday evening, June 1, 6:30 p.m. at Blue Hill Library. A Cuban-style buffet at 5:30 and a film showing are part of the evening.  Tom Whitney of Norway, Maine, a retired pediatrician and frequent traveler to Cuba, has given presentations in Blue Hill on Colombia, Venezuela, and the Latin American School of Medicine. He will talk about “why there is more to the story of Cuba” than the official narrative of a Communist dictatorship and a country US citizens are not permitted to visit. Learn about Cuba’s rich history and culture and about Cuba’s “apostle” Jose Marti. Following the talk, the new acclaimed Cuban film “Jose Marti, Eye of the Canary” will be shown. Contributions of any amount are appreciated in support of the 20th anniversary Pastors for Peace Friendshipment Caravan to Cuba in July 2012. Sponsored by Peninsula Peace & Justice. For more information, 326-4405.
