UPDATE ON THE S. KOREA FREE TRADE AGREEMENT &
statewide ACTION this SATURDAY Dec 11th– Waterville
Despite campaign promises to reform the NAFTA model, President Obama is bringing the Korea Free Trade Agreement forward and lobbying for it’s passage.
The Korea FTA would be the LARGEST free trade agreement since NAFTA and would lead to the outsourcing of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of jobs. It contains all of the same anti-democratic, job hemorrhaging provisions in NAFTA that have devastated our state. This is completely unacceptable.
JOIN US SATURDAY AT OUR ANNUAL MEETING WHERE WE WILL TAKE ACTION IN STRONG OPPOSITION TO THE SOUTH KOREA FREE TRADE AGREEMENT.
It is time to put an end to NAFTA-style trade deals and to overhaul trade policy. To accomplish this we MUST get Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to OPPOSE this disastrous proposal.
THIS Saturday- December 11th
Tickets are $5 to cover lunch (no one will be turned away for lack of funds)
Please RSVP to Daphne at 777-6387

Directions: www.wtvlucc.org/directions.htmWhat happened? Why now?
Obama and S. Korea struck a “deal” to “fix” the issue of auto imports from the US to S. Korea. They therefore claim that it is ready to be brought forward for a vote. Nothing else actually changed.
Good commentary on what’s happening– read this article:
Rep. Mike Michaud says:
“…when it comes to this deal, I will work with allies on Capitol Hill to do whatever I can to defeat it. We need to finally live up to what the American people have been demanding for years – a substantial departure from the past, not a continuation of its mistakes.”
Meanwhile the corporate interests are ecstatic.
We CAN and WILL fight this free trade agreement. The fact that Congress would even consider it shows how entirely out of touch they are with working people.
This is what we have been organizing for- the time to mobilize is NOW!
Please join us Saturday and spread the word!
More details to follow in the coming days.

2010 MFTC Fair Trade Hero Awards
This year, we are humbled to honor three incredible leaders for fair trade and economic justice in Maine.
Mike Castaneda and Debbie Kendall and the laid-off workers of USW Local 11. Mike and Debbie worked at the Otis mill in Jay until it shut its doors for good in May of 2009. Both Mike and Debbie have been tireless in their advocay for trade reform, workers’ rights, and their community. Their leadership, commitment, and hope in the face of adversity is inspiring to us all.
Representative Peggy Rotundo, has chaired the Citizen Trade Policy Commission since its inception in 2005. Rotundo has built bi-partisan support for trade justice among legislators in Maine and has served as a leader and resource to others throughout the region and country.
We are still seeking volunteers to help with the Annual Meeting and Fair Trade Celebration! Please contact Daphne if you can lend a hand either before the meeting or on the 11th itself! firstname.lastname@example.org or 207.777.6387 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 207.777.6387 end_of_the_skype_highlighting
