[Reps. Michaud and Pingree are co-sponsors of the House version.
Calls or emails thanking them would be helpful.
It may be too difficult to move Senator Snowe out of her staunch anti-
Cuba position, but Senator Collins was once a supporter of the
"Bridges to Cuba" bill, which, while not at all progressive, offered
some semblance of creating dialogue. 20 Senate sponsors of S428 is
very hopeful. -- J.R.]

Travel Ban Legislation Goes Public

On Tuesday, March 31 at noon, Senators Dorgan (D-ND), Enzi (R-WY),
and Dodd (D-CT), along with representatives of the American Farm
Bureau, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Human Rights Watch,
publicly announced S. 428, "The Freedom to Travel to Cuba Act" in a
press conference so well attended that reporters were standing in the
halls. LAWG was there capturing the excitement of the moment and
representing all of you.

The senators announced S. 428 enthusiastically; and thanks to all of
your work in the previous day, months, and years, the bill was
introduced with 20 Senate co-sponsors.

On Thursday, April 2, the House of Representatives will hold a press
conference to unvail H.R. 874, the House companion of "The Freedom to
Travel to Cuba Act." Also, because of all your hard work calling
offices and sending messages, there are an amazing total of 121 co-
sponsors on H.R. 874.

To check if your member has co-sponsored the bill, visit
www.thomas.gov and search for bill number, H.R. 874. If she/he
hasn't, please call or use this link to send a message. You can
search thomas.gov for a list of co-sponsors for S.428 also and use
this link to e-mail your senators.

Your work contacting your members and telling your friends has gotten
us to this point, and we want to thank you for everything you've
done. Please, keep your energy and determination high; and if you
haven't checked out our most recent blog post, be sure to do so here.

We need to continue building momentum if we want to see a real change
in our Cuba policy.
