The *MARCH** 2009* updates to the Hancock County Children's Council
Family Support, Education & Workshop calendar will soon be posted to our

3.02.09 *_Sullivan_* 9:00am-3:00pm (10 sessions): FREE WorkReady^(TM)
Certificate Course to be Offered at Sumner Adult Education beginning
Tuesday, March 2^nd and continuing for 10 Tuesdays at Sumner Adult
Education's Learning Center located at the Sullivan Town Office, Route
1, Sullivan. This course will help participants learn the "soft skills"
needed in the workplace. The program simulates the workplace
environment, offers training, and evaluates performance in 7 key

3.02.09 *_Bar Harbor_* 6:00pm-8:30pm: "I am Moving, I am Learning" with
Megan London at MDI YMCA, 21 Park Street, Bar Harbor. This FREE
workshop is adapted from the Head Start Curriculum designed to address
the problem of childhood obesity. This workshop focuses on movement in
early childhood environments. Participants will gain strategies to
incorporate physical activity in everyday routines and transitions.

3.03.09 *_Bangor_* (6 sessions): "Developing your Skills as a Parent
Educator" will be offered by Louise Kirkland & Leslie Forstadt through
the University of Maine Cooperative Extension office in Bangor. You can

developed to meet the specific needs of youth in high risk situations.

even less as it is about teaching a baby how to read. Sharing books

Monthly Support Group will meet on the second Tuesday of each month at
Downeast Health Services, 52 Christian Ridge Road, Ellsworth. Whether
grandparents (aunts, uncles, other family members) are the primary
caregivers of the children living in their homes, or if a parent is also
present (or perhaps an intermittent presence) they face a myriad of
challenges. Among the issues with which they must deal with are
financial, legal, health (physical, mental health and insurance),
housing, education, respite care, child rearing discipline, rules,
boundaries, family communication and relationships, special needs of

Development for Preschool-aged Children" presented by Linda Levesque.
This curriculum is designed to introduce participants to planning,
developing and implementing curriculum to meet the unique needs of
preschoolers. This core knowledge training will focus on working with
the preschooler in family childcare setting. Attention will be paid to
planning environments that can double as a home while providing for
safe, healthy and stimulating care, building long term relationships
with parents, being a humane and responsive business, as well as other
issues particular to being a family child care provider. $25 fee.
