PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MAINERS TO JOIN
JULY CARAVAN TO CUBA
BLUE HILL – On Friday July 2, the film Pastors for Peace – People to
People will be shown, co-sponsored by Peninsula Peace & Justice and
the Let Cuba Live Committee of Maine. For nearly 20 years the NY
based Pastors for Peace has been organizing Friendshipment Caravans
to Cuba, and people from Maine have always participated. The goal of
the caravans is to challenge the travel restrictions imposed by the
United States, to introduce US citizens to the reality of Cuban life,
to educate about the immorality of the US economic blockade and to
normalize relations between the two countries.
Caravan participants hail from the US and Canada, Mexico and several
European countries. After traveling across the United States, 13
caravan routes will converge in Texas, to prepare for crossing the US/
Mexico border with hundreds of tons of humanitarian aid. After
spending 10 days in Cuba, the group will re-enter the US on August 3.
This year Peter and Judy Robbins of Sedgwick will be joining the
effort, along with Dr. Tom Whitney of Norway, Maine, and two
university students from southern Maine. Members of Let Cuba Live
have been gathering new and used tools to bring to Cuba to help in
housing reconstruction, an urgent need following two years of
hurricane devastation on the island.
The film will be shown at Blue Hill Library 7:00 p.m, followed by a
discussion. For more information, contact 326-4405 or see
