Subject: Please Support the Second Chance Act National Letter
Maine Prisoner Advocacy Coalition:
As you may know, the Senate recently eliminated funding for the Second Chance Act in their version of the FY 12 funding bill for the Department of Justice. In July, the House Appropriations Committee provided $70 million in their fiscal year 2012 Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations bill. Although funding was eliminated in the Senate bill, there is still time to restore funding for the program when the House and Senate Appropriations Committees attempt to resolve differences between the two spending bills.
We need help adding organizations from Maine that support reentry onto the attached national letter. We would to add 10 to 20 more organizations to show Sen. Collins the broad support the Second Chance Act has in the state. The deadline to get this letter to the Senator is Tuesday, Nov. 1st. Would you please consider the following:
1. Signing the letter
2. Forwarding it to your networks/contacts and ask them to sign on
3. Provide me with a list of organizations to reach out to
Thank you for any help you can provide. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks.
