film: The Black Power Mixtape

BLUE HILL– Peninsula Peace & Justice announces the showing of The Black Power Mixtape on April 27. The documentary, created with sponsorship of the Swedish Film Institute, examines the evolution of the Black Power Movement in the black community and Diaspora from 1967 to 1975. The film combines music, startling 16mm footage (lying undiscovered in the cellar of Swedish Television for 30 years), and contemporary audio interviews from leading African-American artists, activists, musicians and scholars. Including appearances by Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture), Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Eldridge Cleaver, Bobby Seale, Huey P. Newton, Emile de Antonio, Angela Davis, and commentary voice by Harry Belafonte, Kathleen Cleaver, and Sonia Sanchez, The Black Power Mixtape has won awards from Sundance Film Festival 2011 and Berlin International Film Festival.

The film will be shown at Blue Hill Library at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27. Free and open to the public. For info: 326-4405.
