Before today's House vote on "fast track," Huffington Post reported:
The GOP-led House of Representatives started over on trade Thursday,
advancing a fresh bill to give President Barack Obama and the next
president sweeping powers to fast-track through Congress a string of
enormous trade pacts, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Just moments ago, enough corporate Democrats voted with Republicans to
send this bill to the Senate. That's where the battle is now.
Can you call Senators Susan Collins and Angus King and tell them we need
the Senate to vote NO on "fast track?"
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was written by big corporations in
secret. Unions and consumer advocates did not have a meaningful voice at
the table. Special provisions were given to big corporations that would
let them override U.S. laws aimed at protecting workers, consumers, and
the environment.
Now, worker assistance provisions have been taken out by House
Republicans as well. Every step of the way, this gets worse for everyday
people.
Call your senators right now. This is happening fast, and the public
needs to be heard.
(And remember: When you hear about primaries that pit bold progressives
against corporate Democrats -- fights like this is why those battles
matter.)
Thanks for being a bold progressive.
