Ted

Just wanted to drop you a quick note to urge you, in the strongest possible
terms, to vote against the school consolidation bill. I was struck by what
Cherie Pingree related at graduation the other day - about the genuine
interest she had in the concerns and needs of her community and how her
attention to these concerns enabled her to rise from “outsider” to
legislative representative. I believe if you were to listen carefully to the
concerns of your community and hear the overwhelming opposition to this
legislation, you will be compelled to vote against this bill.

If this were a simple case of the sacrifice of a few for the good of the
many, I could understand a vote in favor of school consolidation. But given
its profound impacts to the future of education (even on MDI), the true loss
of local decision making, the dubious if not fabricated economic benefits,
and the rushed approach to crafting such a significant and far reaching
legislation it is clearly in the best interests of your constituents for you
to vote against this legislation at this time.

Thanks Ted for listening and being responsive to voice of your community.

Best regards,

Sam
