NOTICES:
Support Local Sprouts Cooperative thru community financing. Local
Sprouts is a Portland-based co-op business which is opening a cafe
and bakery in downtown Portland. It wants to raise funds to buy the
building and for expansion. Two sample loan agreements are available,
one for $2,000 and one for $10,000. Community financing systems are a
tried and true method for local business development. For more

This USA is Union Supported Agriculture, a food distribution system
in eastern Maine for union members, laid off workers, and others.
Shares may already be filled for 2010, but check it out or sign up
early for 2011. Share options range from $200-400 and for 10 or 16
weeks. Costs are lower for those who work exchange at the farm in

Portland Buy Local has a "2009-2010 Guide to Portland's Locally Owned
Businesses and Organizations" to help buyers find what they need at
local, rather than chain, businesses. The 48-page booklet has
listings in many categories, including clothing, automotive services,
home and garden, pets and pet care, and many more sections. The guide
is sponsored by the Portland Independent Business and Community
