Friday, Blue Hill: THEY LIVE – Enjoy Buy-Nothing Day with a movie

On November 24, in celebration of Buy Nothing Day, Peninsula Peace & Justice will screen the 1988 futuristic B-movie They Live at Blue Hill Public Library. Novelist Jonathan Lethem, who published a 2010 book exploring  this John Carpenter thriller, will introduce the film and comment afterward. Its famed director, John Carpenter, has tweeted that They Live is “about yuppies and unrestrained capitalism.” Philosopher Slavoj Žižek has called it “one of the forgotten masterpieces of the Hollywood Left.”The film will be shown at the Blue Hill Library, 7 p.m., on Friday, November 24. Free and open to the public, with refreshments provided​.
