Democracy Forum question

The title of the League of Women Voter’s 4PM Friday panel program, “Can Democracy Survive the Internet?” contains an implicit assumption that the internet we have had until recently is a potentially fatal threat to democracy.
But perhaps that’s a misplaced assumption. The last several years of increasing suppression of internet information that runs counter to the narratives being pushed by various levels of government and various corporate entities is beginning to resemble George Orwell’s Ministry of Truth.
In the face of the overt “Great Reset” intention and plans of the World Economic Forum, the Gates Foundation, the technology industry, and apparently adopted by the Biden administration — which can rationally be viewed as far more dangerous to our democracy than even divisiveness — wouldn’t a more important question to explore be:
“Can democracy survive without a free and open internet?”
