Peninsula Peace & Justice will celebrate the homecoming day of Chelsea Manning

on WEDNESDAY MAY 17th, noon to 1:00 at Blue Hill Town Park.

We’ll have cake and lemonade; bring what you like for lunch.
You are also invited to bring signs, balloons or flowers and to say a few words.

Chelsea Manning was relieved of her remaining prison sentence by President Obama a few days before he left office. She has been in Fort Leavenworth Military Prison since being convicted in 2013 of violations of the Espionage Act, based upon her handing over of documents to Wikileaks.

Manning told Amnesty International:

“These documents were important because they relate to two connected counter-insurgency conflicts in real-time from the ground. Humanity has never had this complete and detailed a record of what modern warfare actually looks like. Once you realize that the co-ordinates represent a real place where people live that the dates happened in our recent history; that the numbers are actually human lives—with all the love, hope, dreams, hatred, fear, and nightmares that come with them—then it’s difficult to ever forget how important these documents are.”

Over the past 7 years, she has received several international awards for her courage as a Whistleblower.
